Author: Vanya Agarwal, Student, Jindal Global Law School, Sonipat, Haryana, India

Critical Race Theorists have spent their lives critiquing the inherently racist society we live in. They believe everything needs to be seen from the lens of a non-white individual to understand the racism behind things that might seem equal. This paper tries to explain in brief the meaning of institutional racism and the basic critiques and notion of a critical race theorist. It further looks at the current COVID-19 pandemic and evidences that the non-white population is disproportionally affected by this pandemic due to the institutional racism present in the society. It tries to show that the non-white people are inherently disadvantaged when it comes to the spread of this virus when compared with the white population. The paper concludes with steps a critical race theorist will take to improve the current situation.

Keywords: Covid-19, Critical Race Theory, Institutional racism.
